No one raised an eyebrow when Anne Curtis declared that, “Ako ang nag-iisang Dyosa (I am the lone goddess),” during the pre-pilot promo of the fantaserye Dyosa, which is set to close its five-month run tonight. After all, Anne, undeniably, has one of the prettiest faces and sexiest bodies in local showbiz.

Even before the program premiered on primetime TV, fans have been fondly calling the pretty actress “Dyosa,” proof that the public agrees with ABS-CBN management’s decision to give her the prized role.

“I was shocked because even after the show premiered last August, people were fondly calling me Dyosa,” recalls Anne. “Feel na feel ko naman. I immediately felt the love from the fans, and the excitement of the public for our show.”

Anne, introduced as a child star in the fantasy movie Magic Kingdom and launched in the horror flick Ika-13 Kapitulo years ago, worked hard to be one of this generation’s most talented and brightest stars. She even had to learn how to get rid of her then very thick Australian accent. Anne is raised in the Land Down Under.

She topbilled other primetime series like Kampanerang Kuba, Hiram and Maging Sino Ka Man, where she played the carefree Celine, who publicly declared, “I am a slut, but I am the best slut in town.”

It is in Maging Sino Ka Man that the public noticed Anne’s marked performance as a thespian leading the way for Anne to get a project young stars like her could only dream of — Star Cinema and Viva Films’ When Love Begins, opposite perennial matinee idol Aga Muhlach.

After the impressive box-office performance of the movie, Anne took on her most challenging TV project- playing multiple characters in Dyosa. The pretty actress breathes life to the roles of Dyosa Agua (Water), Tierra (Land), Cielo (Air), Takda, Black Dyosa, Ugly Dyosa and the mortal Josephine.

Anne is proud that she was able to give justice to the demands of the role/s given to her and that the public selflessly supported Dyosa making it the most watched primetime series in ABS-CBN.

“I am proud of the fact that we (Dyosa team) have done a breakthrough project on TV — having a fantaserye with a protagonist having multiple characters,” declares Anne. “I am happy that televiewers acknowledge all our hard work. I can say that I really gave everything for the show. Imagine, I had to act without my hands when I am in my Dyosa Cielo costume.”

Anne considers the scene, where she had to climb a mountain with a triangle prop, one of the hardest and most memorable points in her Dyosa stint.

“I will never forget Dyosa and the hard things that we’ve done to ensure that the show will be enjoyed by our viewers, but more importantly, I am happiest because the whole Dyosa team has bonded very well. We are really like a family,” says Anne. “Aside from that, I am thrilled because of the title Dyosa.”

In the run of the said series, Anne went through one of the most challenging times of her life dealing with her personal relationship with Sam Milby, who plays Adonis, one of her three leading men, alongside Zanjoe Marudo (Mars) and Luis Manzano (Kulas).

According to the Dyosa production staff, Anne and Sam, during the most turbulent times in their relationship, had a hard time doing scenes together. Though they remained professional by delivering whatever the scenes required, it was very apparent that there was a problem.

The Dyosa staff also shared, “we had to respect their personal relationship. At least, they did not let it affect our show. Now, at least, they are more cordial with each other.”

Because of this heartache and her stint on Dyosa, Anne has evolved into one of the finest actresses of her generation by turning in an unforgettable performance in the movie Baler. Her effective portrayal of Feliza Reyes, a young Filipina in love with a Spanish-Filipino soldier during the 1898 Seige of Baler amidst her father’s strong opposition, made her clinch the Best Actress award in the recently-concluded Metro Manila Film Festival.

“The successful run of Dyosa is a proof that that it pays to dream big dreams,” says production manager Raymund Dizon. “Mounting a show like Dyosa is a hard task, but with everyone’s support, we managed to pull it through. We are happy that we have produced a good program.”

Because of the success of Dyosa’s run, fans of the show started petitioning that a second installment be launched soon. Asked about this, Raymund simply quips, “For now, let’s just support the finale of Dyosa. Maybe soon, ang nag-iisang Dyosa will again be seen on TV.”

The Big Question: Where in the Sea is Marina?

Since Pearly Shell (Chokoleit)  from the Marina telenovela appeared in the recent episodes of Dyosa, as well as the queen of the Sea "Dugong"(Malou de Guzman) had a short cameo scene via flashback. I've been pondering what happened to Marina / Cristina played by none other than Claudine Barretto? I think the ending of Marina was a cliffhanger as she kissed goodbye to her mother Esther (Snooky Serna) and just swam away to nowhere. I believe Tandang Minela knows her whereabouts. Will Dyosa Agua (Anne Curtis) ever cross paths with Marina in the future episodes? I'm sure that crossover will boost the ratings as high as tidal waves!

While chitchatting with one of the mermaids, Josephine found out that Pearly Shells used to be a mortal until Dugong (Marina) made him a sea creature. Pearly Shells was sent back to the mortal world but an unfortunate event sends him back to the sea. Pearly Shells returned to their lair but Dugong is no longer in there, so he became aloof with the rest of the sea community. Pearly Shells desperately waits for the arrival of Dugong and refused to accept that his master is already dead. The mermaid added that Pearly Shells inherited all the knowledge from Dugong.

Nikki Bacolod thanks Wenn Deramas for 'Dyosa' project

Singer and young actress Nikki Bacolod shared how thankful she is to television and box office director Wenn Deramas for choosing her to be part of ABS-CBN’s upcoming television series “Dyosa.”

“I feel very pleasured and overwhelmed. I’m really, really happy. I mean it’s all thanks to ‘Direk’ Wenn talaga kasi siya ang naglagay sa akin dito I’m really, really happy,” Bacolod said.

The actress who already worked with Deramas in the film “Ang Cute ng Ina Mo” said that she’s giving all her best for the series.

She said that she’s also happy not only because she got her dream role to be a villain but because she gets the chance to work with big stars like Efy Quizon, Anne Curtis and Sam Milby.

Bacolod said that she is not new to acting since she has already appeared on various television shows and films.

The actress said that since it’s her first time to do a contravida she really did prepare for the role.

“Kung anuman ang mapanood kong movie, international or local or kahit anong shows ino-observe ko lahat ang mga actings nila sa mga contravidas at even sa cast ng ‘Dyosa,’” Bacolod said.

Learning from veterans
The actress said that she’s learning a lot from the veteran stars in the cast especially from Ms. Jaclyn Jose.

“Since she’s also a contravida ino-observe ko iyong the way she act at gina-gather ko lahat ng information and then pinag-aaralan ko,” she said.

Bacolod said that she really enjoys working for the series and said that she will never forget her first scene with Jose.

“First time mo to act with a veteran actress feeling ko mahirap iyon… doon sa scene nag-aaway kami nang nalaman kong hindi ako takda kasi si Anne pala ang tunay na takda… ang ‘Dyosa’,” she said.

She said that one lesson that she learned from Jose is to keep calm and just enjoy her work.

“Dapat relax lang iyon lang talaga, kasi kapag stiff ka hindi mo mapo-portray ‘yong role mo and then you have to know your lines of course,” she said.

Bacolod who is a talented singer said that she will also be very busy with her singing engagements.

“I’m still singing po in fact this coming August 16 I will be having a birthday concert in my hometown sa Iligan with Mark Bautista and Carlo Aquino,” Bacolod said.

Bacolod just released her second album titled “Nikki: Not That Kind of Girl” under Viva Records.

Bacolod’s career started when she joined “Search for A Star in a Million Season 1.”

Direk Wenn Deramas : no regrets about "Dyosa"

Direk Wenn Deramas admitted that the delayed debut of Dyosa was largely due to the meticulous attention needed for the show’s special effects, something which he believes is very crucial to any fantaserye.

"Originally, July 7 [ang premiere ng Dyosa), yun naman talaga ang target. Pero ang nangyari kasi, sa dami ng effects ng Dyosa, hindi kinaya talaga." He further explained, "Namili kami kung pangit [ang maipalabas] o maghintay kami ng at least isang buwan para mapaganda ng husto [yung effects]. So siyempre pinili naming magpalabas ng maganda kaysa naman magpalabas pangit."

The director was supposed to handle I Love Betty La Fea when a sudden change of plans prompted him to take over Dyosa. When asked if he regretted not being able to spearhead the Colombian franchise, Direk Wenn honestly replied, "Of course gustong-gusto ko yung Betty kasi talagang umupo ako dun sa brainstorming, nakialam ako sa kwento, kasama ako sa presentations... kaya lang alam din ng management na kung ano yung hawak ko ngayon, dun ko binibigay yung puso ko. So nung binigay nila sa akin yung Dyosa, alam na nila na hindi ko ito bibitawan para sa mas naunang proyekto sana."

Making Dyosa is certainly no easy feat. Building the set for a wedding scene, for instance, took their production design team about a month before it was completed. Anne Curtis and the rest of the cast also had to go through the tedious process of donning prosthetics which takes hours to apply. "Yung mga walang prosthetics bugbog naman sa effects. Say yung mga unano (played by Jojit Lorenzo and Rubi-Rubi), ang isang eksena ng unano limang beses kinukunan. Three to four times naman yung triplets (Nikki Bacolod). So mahirap. Eh masokista kaming lahat so nag-eenjoy kami," he quipped.

Direk Wenn has no regrets of working on Dyosa instead of Betty. In fact, he feels blessed because he has such understanding stars who have no qualms about their roles, no matter how hard they are. "Kailangan ‘pag ganito yung programa dapat mababait lahat yung artista. Kung hindi si Anne Curtis yun na pagkatapos ng eksena, hubad, palit ng buhok at makeup, [tapos diretso] salang, siguro hindi magiging successful ang isang programa. At dun ako happy dahil lahat sila mababait."

As to Dyosa being compared to another series featuring a mermaid, Direk Wenn confidently responded, "Yung competition ayoko mawala. Kasi yun yung challenge sa amin pare-pareho, para pagbutihan namin yung ginagawa namin at ang makikinabang ay yung mga manunuod."

Dyosa will start airing on Monday, August 11, right after The Singing Bee on Primetime Bida.

Gods and goddesses roam the earth in "Dyosa"

Fishes of all sizes, stingrays, and an occasional shark swam leisurely in a 25-meter long aquarium in the function hall of the Manila Ocean Park. This huge glass display served as the backdrop of the presidential table of the Dyosa press conference that took place last Monday, August 4, at the marine themed educational facility at Luneta Park in Manila.

Even the stars of this ABS-CBN fantaserye could not help but look behind them to observe the colorful sea creatures and to watch a diver that went into the tank to clean up the aquarium. For most of them, it was their first time to visit the Manila Ocean Park.

According to Dyosa director Wenn Deramas, they chose the marine themed park as their press con venue to promote ecological awareness among people. It also fit the theme of the new TV show, which will feature lead star Anne Curtis as a mermaid when she transforms into Dyosa Agua. Her two other personas, Dyosa Tierra and Dyosa Cielo, will transform her into a centaur and a bird, respectively. As a goddess, Anne's character can control the elements and the animals in the earth, sea, and sky.

Direk Wenn is aware that some people might compare Dyosa with his previous TV project Marina starring Claudine Barretto. "Ibang-iba ang istorya nito sa Marina. Isa lang ang pagiging mermaid sa katauhan niya. That was five years ago pa, sa buntot pa lang, ibang-iba na ang Dyosa."

How would he react to those who would compare Dyosa with Dyesebel of GMA-7? "Ang importante pareho nating ginagawa ang ating trabaho. Yung kumpetisyon ayokong mawala dahil yun ang challenge sa amin pareho, para pagandahin ang trabaho namin.

"Kung ikukumpara nila sa Dyesebel, e, di ikumpara," says Direk Wenn with a laugh.

When Anne transforms into Dyosa Cielo (goddess of the sky, wherein Cielo is the Spanish term for sky), there are ten people who are tasked to move her wings. "May limang tao [sa bawat side] na gumagalaw sa pakpak ni Anne. Napapagalitan ko pa sila pag hindi synchronized yung paggalaw nila," reveals Direk Wenn.

The director then described how they created the tail of Dyosa. "Yung pinaka balat niya, manipis na manipis para hindi magmukhang goma then dun dinikit yung kaliskis na gawa sa silicon. Kung nagmahal na po ang magpagawa ng boobs, dahil po sa amin dahil kinuha namin lahat ng silicon para sa buntot ni Anne Curtis."

Will Anne have breast exposure for this fantaserye? Direk Wenn answers by saying, "Yes, yun ang una kong requirement. Pumayag si Anne na may takip na konting-konti. Aanguluhan namin para hindi gaanong nakalabas. May latex na takip. Pag kabayo rin siya, wala ring takip."

As a merman, Luis Manzano will also be showing some skin for this fantaserye. "Body paint lang siya halos dahil merman ako. Pinasuot niya ko ng nipple tape at hindi na niya ako pinasuot ng pambaba. Yung baba, Direk Wenn left it hanging na lang para may makain ang isda," joked Luis.

Sam Milby will also have a scene wherein he is shirtless and will be wearing shorts. He exclaimed: "Nakahubo rin ako!" Direk Wenn described Sam's scene as similar to the one shot in Terminator wherein a nude Arnold Schwarzenegger emerges on earth after traveling from the future.

It takes around two to four hours to put on the prosthetics of Anne, Sam, and Luis. The bird character of Anne takes longest to create since they have to put extensions in her hair and she has to put on the heavy wings.

In Dyosa, Anne plays the role of Josephine, the daughter of Bernardo Carpio (Matthew Mendoza) and Sinukuan (Mickey Ferriols). Her simple life becomes altered when she turns 18 years old. She learns that midgets Huling ang Miong (played by Rubirubi and Jojit Lorenzo, respectively) are her adoptive parents who are loyal followers of Sinukuan.

As the takda (or destined one), Dyosa is supposed to be the next queen who will bring balance to the opposing worlds of good (Kabanwa) and evil (Kasamyan). However, the young girl is reluctant to become the next queen of the immortal gods especially since she is infatuated with a mortal comics illustrator named Mars (Zanjoe Marudo).

Josephine also has a childhood friend named Kulas (Luis Manzano) who is secretly in love with her. Adonis (Sam Milby) is a beast tasked to kill Dyosa but when he lays eyes on her, he becomes mesmerized by her beauty.

Adding conflict to the story is Magayon (Jaclyn Jose), who is very jealous of her sister Sinukuan. Magayon wants her daughter Diana (Nikki Bacolod) to be the destined one instead of Dyosa.

Amang Suga (Lloyd Samartino) is the father of Sinukuan and Magayon. He is the most powerful god in Kabanwa while Tadaklan (Carlos Morales) is the king of Kasamyan, the land of the engkantos.

Other interesting characters to look forward to include the talking mirror Salaminsim (Vice Ganda), the half-man, half-goat Bakos (Epi Quizon), and Venus (Joseph Andre Garcia), the younger brother of Josephine.

Hardbound coffee-table books containing artwork and photography by Jojit Lorenzo were given away for members of the media who attended the press con at the Manila Ocean Park.

Dyosa will air on ABS-CBN starting August 11 (Monday).

Anne Curtis goes almost topless for her new teleserye Dyosa

While outright nudity is a no-no (remember Rafael Rosell’s butt exposure in Maligno?), Direk Wenn Deramas confirmed that Anne Curtis is barely covered with plaster whenever she’s in her Dyosa Agua and Dyosa Tierra costumes for Dyosa. The director has previously stressed that shooting a fully-clothed mermaid or centaur is ridiculous and out of the question. But the daring scenes were simply shot in such a way that they are still suitable for young and impressionable would-be viewers of the show.

Moreover, Anne completely trusted Direk Wenn to handle her delicate scenes. In fact, only a few members of the production staff are allowed on the set when the beautiful actress will be almost in the buff. On the other hand, Sam—who’s yet to tape more scenes with his real-life sweetheart—couldn’t help but get shocked with Anne’s state of undress particularly when she’s a centaur. Anne denied however that this caused a misunderstanding between her and Sam. "In-explain ko lang sa kanya na kailangan, na kasama yun sa work. Naintindihan naman niya dahil artista din naman siya," she explained during the recent presscon of Dyosa at the Manila Ocean Park. "Pero siyempre yung initial reaction niya, nagulat siya kasi from afar mukhang [hubad] talaga. Eh tumatakbo-takbo pa ako, ‘di ba? [In the end] naintindihan naman niya."

Anne further dished on the challenges she had to face with her multiple costumes. "Pinakamahirap yung centaur. Unang-una nahihirapan ako kasi hindi ko alam kung paano kumikilos ang isang kabayo. And dun sa fiberglass na body ng kabayo, nakaluhod po ako sa loob nun, so masakit siya sa likod. Pero ‘tiisable’ naman siya," she charmingly exclaimed. Her Dyosa Cielo persona also posed more difficulties since putting on the required prosthetics, makeup, and hair extensions take a lot of time. "Pinakamadali po yung mermaid kasi sinusuot ko lang yung buntot, as is lang yung hair ko, and no makeup [is needed]," she added. Difficult as it is getting into the costumes for her different personas, Anne doesn’t mind doing them, including the mortal guise of Josephine.

Co-stars Sam Milby and Luis Manzano also have their favorites among Anne’s Dyosa Tierra, Dyosa Cielo, and Dyosa Agua personas. Like most people, Sam chose Dyosa Cielo or the bird since Anne looks really stunning with her colorful wings. Luis, ever the sweet-talker, answered differently. "Ako siguro wala sa tatlo. For me it's really Josephine lang. Kasi for me, Anne's beauty ever since na nakilala ko siya, 60% yung physical, 40% yung personality niya. ‘Pag lumalabas yung tunay niyang ugali, dun siya mas nagiging dyosa para sa akin."

Jaclyn Jose faces new challenges with her firsts in Dyosa

Multi-awarded actress Jaclyn Jose said that she still on the process of adjusting on how to portray her first role as a villain.

Jose would portray "Magayon" in also her first fantasy series "Dyosa."

In an exclusive interview with abs-cbnNEWS.com, Jose said that she accepted the project because of the role as the main villain and since she can’t say no the series’ director Wenn V. Deramas.

"The role itself the villain, the contravida and Wenn I can’t say no to Wenn and the role," Jose said.

Jose said that for her first fantaserye she’s still studying on how to attack her character as the villain since she used to perform main roles or supporting roles.

"Lagi lang ako bida o nanay ng bida na inaapi so gusto kong ibahin totally different so hindi pa ako masyadong makaporma but definitely the look and the character is there… Here I’m bad, bad --the main villain," Jose said.

The actress shared that it is also hard to do the scenes especially with 3-layered wigs on her head and the scenes wherein she only talks to green board or chroma.

Firsts

Jose said that all her scenes in the series were memorable since it all marks her firsts.

"Madami mahirap kasi, tapos first time ko pa, first time kong mag-fantasy, first time kong mag-contravida role. So, kapa ako every taping panganay ang tawag ko, every taping nanganganay mahirap hindi ko alam kung paano i-attack," explains Jose.

She said that though her role in "Dyosa" is a new thing, she would still want to keep the ‘Jose acting signature’ to avoid being identified to other contravida stars.

"Ayaw ko naman ng caricature gusto ko ako pa din, iyong Jaclyn Jose na serious ayaw ko naman iyong nakakatuwa o iyong mukhang bruha o ma-identify sa iba nating friends na identified to doing that type of role, meaning iyong mga contravidas natin," the actress said.

Jose said that in spite of having some problems with her new role she said that she is really enjoying her work. "Happy, hindi ko ta-trabahuhin kung hindi. Happy ako."

The actress also praised the series’ main characters like Anne Curtis and Luis Manzano whom she described as kind and professional stars.

"Mabait si Anne nakasama ko na siya before si Luis ganoon din mababait itong mga stars natin mas mababait pa sila kaysa doon sa walang pangalan," she said.

Before the interview ended, Jose shared that the series would really capture interest of the young ones because of its graphics as well as its effects that is comparable to foreign film such as "Narnia."

"Parang ang dami mong gustong tignan. Si Bakos lang iyong half goat- half man…So I'm sure ang mga bata ay mabubusog ang imagination," Jose ended.

Jose is now a contract star of ABS-CBN on a per project basis. The actress said that as a supporting actress she’s not part of the so-called competition among networks.

Mickey Ferriols loses weight for Dyosa

Actress Mickey Ferriols said that she deliberately lost weight to be part of ABS-CBN’s upcoming television series “Dyosa” which stars actress Anne Curtis.

“It’s because of Sir Enrico Santos and Ms. Charo Santos’ ultimatum, because when we were about to start taping for ‘Dyosa’, they wanted to see me. They want to make sure that I will fit the role as Dyosa’s mother. So I had to look good and better than I did since I really gained weight before,” the actress told abs-cbnNEWS.com.

She added that since she already lost weight, she is now trying to continue her diet.

“Iyong gym, wala. dinadaan ko lang talaga sa discipline ng pagkain,” she said.

Ferriols said that dieting is one of her ways to thank the Kapamilya network for entrusting her with the role.

The actress said doing the series is another blessing for her. Aside from “Dyosa”, she is also doing a series with actress Judy Anne Santos also for ABS-CBN entitled “Humingi Ka Sa Langit” directed by Andoy Ranay.

She is also doing a television show “Kuwentong Disyerto” for TFC aired every Friday with TJ Manotoc.

Working in "Dyosa"

Ferriols said that she is blessed that she was given a chance to do a project with Curtis and well-acclaimed director Wenn Deramas.

“Si direk Wenn ang bilis pero hindi nasa-sacrifice iyong quality ng palabas. He is very efficient when it comes to time. Kay Anne naman nagkasama na kami sa "Hiram" and this is the first time na magka-eksena kaming ganito. Nakaka-flatter, ang ganda ng anak ko and she’s the kind of person (who's) beautiful inside and out,” Ferriols said.

She also praised her other co-stars in “Dyosa” like actors Zanjoe Marudo, Luis Manzano and Sam Milby by saying that the actors are really kind-hearted, very funny and humble.


Mickey's family life

Ferriols is a mother of a two-year-old boy. She said that she and her partner Archie Alemania are planning to have another child by next year.

“Kasi next year si Brent will be three and half… I’m not getting any younger kumbaga gusto ko nang tapusin kaya naglalagare kami ngayon ni Archie para in preparation for sending Brent to school and having another baby,” Ferriols said.

She also said that given a chance, she would like to go back to her first love which is hosting.

"Yun ang dream ko makabalik ako sa first love ko, sana lang. Pero kung hindi, okay lang. Ang daming binibigay sa akin ni God magrereklamo pa ba ako," Ferriols said.

Actress Anne Curtis shared her happiness and excitement over her upcoming television series “Dyosa" -- as well as the attention she is getting from all three of her leading men: hunks Zanjoe Marudo, Luis Manzano, and especially Sam Milby. The fantasy series "Dyosa" will air over ABS-CBN staring August 11.

“I know August 11 na very exciting for me, and I guess for everyone; kasi we’d been working really hard--but at the same time [I'm] nervous,” Curtis told abs-cbnNEWS.com in an interview held at Trinoma in Quezon City.

Curtis also talked about her working relationship with her three leading men, one of whom--as they both already admitted--she is exclusively dating: that's actor Sam Milb of course.

“Ayon makukulit lahat sila makukulit but it’s been so much fun working with them,” she said, adding that there was no shortage of funny, wacky moments on the set.

She also said that she's happy working with director Wenn Deramas again--this after the two of them had a rift over shooting schedules on a past film,"Ang Cute ng Ina Mo". From what she said about the director, it's obvious that they've patched things up.

“Okay siya. It’s so much fun working with him again ang last namin kasi iyong ‘Ang Cute ng Ina Mo,’ so to work with him iyon naalala ko lahat… iyong dictation sa tagalog so iyon, narrates the actress.

Curtis has obviously lost weight--a result, she said, of the hard work she's been putting into the making of "Dyosa." Despite the toll on her body, however, she said that she actually enjoys the work.

“Hindi naman sa nahihirapan, but it has a lot of work; and it’s thrice a week na iyong tipong, para matulog gigising nang hapon na. Tapos tulog ulit tapos diretso na sa set. So it’s a lot of work hindi ko nga alam na pumayat na ako--hindi ko na-notice. But it’s a good thing for me, she said.

Playing games

Curtis said she's very happy to be able to work with Milby. Despite their busy schedules, she said that they always find the time and the means to keep their relationship healthy. Milby, she said, is particularly good at finding times and opportunities to come and see her.

So what do they enjoy most doing together? Curtis replied: “Just doing nothing together, wala lang. Iyong you are just happy enough just being in each other’s company. Iyong nagkukuwentuhan or mahilig kami sa movies."

Nowadays, the hot couple is into video games and game consoles--they play games on their Xbox and their Nintendo Wii--particularly the virtual tennis game and Mario.

Curtis admitted that she sees Sam as the man for her. "Of course I wouldn't been dating him if not, hindi ba? If he keeps how he is."

Curtis described Sam as a very kind person, genuinely nice to everyone and very humble.

"Kahit Sam Milby na siya hindi napunta sa ulo niya. Siya pa din yung naiilang. That's what I like about him... iba ang kabaitan nya. I know na maraming mag-aagree with me," Curtis said.

Even as she tapes for “Dyosa”, Curtis is also set to star in a film entitled “Baler” with actor Jericho Rosales.

"Baler" will be an official entry to this year's Metro Manila Film Festival.

ON THE SET: "Dyosa" komiks launch

Mall goers of Trinoma temporarily stopped their shopping last Monday, July 28, to watch the stars of Dyosa shoot some sequences at the mall's activity center.

PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) was invited on the set of this upcoming ABS-CBN fantaserye. The sequence shot that day was the komiks launch that displayed the powers of Dyosa (Anne Curtis) a.k.a. Josephine.

Gods and goddesses will grace ABS-CBN's primetime block when Dyosa airs its pilot episode on August 11 (Monday). As the goddess of air, land, and water, Dyosa (Anne) must keep the balance between the world of mortals and the world of immortals. She is able to transform into a centaur as Dyosa Tierra, a bird as Dyosa Cielo, and a mermaid as Dyosa Agua. When PEP asked Anne to chose which character is the most difficult to portray, she answers, "The centaur kasi mahirap talaga yung positioning of the body. Mahirap sa loob ng costume."



The fictional komiks launched that afternoon is called Dyosa and is published by Makiling Publications. Zanjoe Marudo, one of the leading men of Anne, describes his role in this TV series directed by Wenn Deramas.

"Ako si Mars, isang illustrator. Ako ang gumagawa sa Dyosa Komiks. Napapanaginipan ko ang lahat at dino-drawing ko sa komiks. Yun pala, nado-drawing ko mismo ang buhay ni Dyosa. Pero hindi ko alam na ang Dyosa pala si Josephine, na lagi kong kaaway sa opisina. Siya pala si Dyosa pero lagi kaming mag-kaaway. In love ako sa Dyosa pero hindi ko alam na siya pala yun."

Zanjoe left for the United States to take part in the Coverboys tour abroad. The sexy male group will go to San Francisco, Chicago, and Los Angeles to perform with Nikki Gil.

According to Direk Wenn, he has already shot enough episodes to last for about five weeks but the show is initially slated to run for 16 weeks. He then described the three leading men of Anne in this fantaserye.

"Si Luis Manzano yung protector ni Anne. Siya yung best friend na in love pero hindi niya pwede sabihin kay Anne. Si Zanjoe siya yung komiks illustrator na link ng immortal world at ng mortal world. Si Sam Milby yung beast na magkakagusto kay Anne kahit na bawal ma-in love sa Dyosa."

Playing the antagonist in the story is Maricar de Mesa. "I'm Calliope Makiling, ako yung may-ari ng publication company. Ako yung publisher. The character of Anne, si Josephine, and Zanjoe, si Mars, will be working for me. Mga tauhan ko sila."

One source of conflict in the story is the fact that her father stole the original idea for Dyosa Komiks from the family of Mars. "Inagaw ng tatay ko sa tatay niya [Zanjoe] kaya kami yung mayaman."

She also causes conflict since she is in love with Mars. She does everything in her power to prevent Josephine from becoming close to the graphic artist.

Aside from shooting indoor scenes in Trinoma mall, the cast of Dyosa also went to out-of-town locations such as Calatagan, Batangas. The world of the gods is created using special effects. "Kasi ang gusto kong lugar, imposibleng magawan ng set," explains Direk Wenn. "Gumamit kami ng green-blue chroma para ma-achieve yun."

He describes the fantasy world that will be seen in Dyosa: "Yung island surrounded by water. Parang Niagara Falls na may island sa gitna. Saan ka naman kukuha ng ganun?"

The theme song of Dyosa is performed by Yeng Constantino. It is a cover of the Asin song titled "Himig ng Pag-ibig."

This fantaserye will begin as ABS-CBN's My Girl comes to an end.

Anne Curtis is still graceful despite pressure from Dyosa

Anne Curtis reveals that although her latest project, the fantaserye Dyosa, is physically challenging, she is reveling in everything she is doing. Playing the title role, Anne is the goddess of water, land and sky and has the ability to transform into a mermaid, a centaur (half-horse, half-human) and a half-human-half-bird creature so she has to get used to wearing different prosthetics and costumes.

"Mahirap siya pero it’s something I’m looking forward to do. Nage-enjoy ako, preparing and psyching myself," she shares. "It takes two and a half hours to do the make up, hair or wig. Siyempre nangangapa pa kami sa costume. Lahat actually mahirap in its own way. Yung sirena, I’m staying underwater for a period of time habang suot yung buntot. Yung agila mahirap kasi mabigat yung wings, eh. YungAnneCurtiscentaur, masakit naman dahil sa katawan ng kabayo."

Dyosa also helped her realize her childhood dream of playing a mermaid and it was an additional bonus for her to play two other equally interesting characters. "It’s so much fun. Every time I have a change of outfit, I really feel like the goddess of air, the goddess of water and land," she enthuses. "Hopefully all the effort will pay off pagdating sa prosthetics. Sana people will enjoy it."

Dyosa Director Wenn Deramas in the Hot Seat

Not everyone thrives on working non-stop, but for mega box office hit director Wenn Deramas, it’s as if he just lives and breathes for the sake of his craft. "Mas nakakapagod yung wala kang ginagawa. Heaven ako ‘pag nagtatrabaho.Mula pagkabata ganyan na ko: nagtratrabaho, nag-aaral. Tapos ngayon, kapag hindi six days a week ang ginagawa ko, nalulungkot ako. Parang may problema. Parang hindi balance ang earth."

Working on a mini-series frustrates him because he loves to see his projects flourish for as long as it takes. So after Kokey, Maligno, and Volta, Direk Wenn is excited to be working on longer teleseryes like Dyosa, Betty La Fea, and Batunting. For now, Dyosa is keeping him busy along with his new comedy flick, Ai-Ai de las Alas’s Ang Tanging Ina Nyong Lahat.

"Ako yung huling pumasok sa show. Halosgawa na nila ang Dyosa nung dumating ako. Wala palang silang director," says Direk Wenn when asked about the rushes of ABS-CBN’s upcoming fantaserye. "Wala naman kasing gustong tumanggap ng ganitong kalokohan na ang hirap ‘di ba? Pare-pareho lang ng bayad, tapos ito ang hirap." Yet the workaholic director still accepted such a taxing project. "Hindi po ako tumatanggi sa tabaho. At kapag tumanggi ako dito, parang sinasabi kong nakuntento na ako sa ginawa ko noon. Dyosa is a new challenge which will show kung ano pang pwede kong ibigay."

Wenn DeramasDirek Wenn also can’t wait for people to see how much effort Anne Curtis put into the show, even doing some daring scenes. But isn’t he worried that critics may censure her sexy scenes just like what happened to Rafael Rosell’s butt exposure in Maligno? "Kung sasabihin nila, ‘Ano ba yan bakit may hubaran!’ Sasabihin ko,’ Eh hindi naman magkapatong yung babae’t lalake. Natural, ‘pag nawawala yung buntot alangan namang may panty? Syempre ang papalit dyan pwet ng tao. Mas ridiculous naman siguro kung naka-gown si Anne pagtanggal ng buntot or may panty. Saan galing ‘di ba?"

How did Direk Wenn convince Anne to bare more skin for Dyosa? "Parang katulad kung paano ko napapayag si Rafael Rosell. Actually mas delikado yung kay Rafael ‘di ba kasi merong pumping, butt exposure, very violent. Ako naman pine-present ko lang sa kanila. ‘Eto yun. Ngayon hindi kayo naman kayo bababuyin.’ Alaga naman. Yung iba, product of imagination na rin. Kasi malayo din naman yung shot. Mas delikado nga lang kay Anne kasi day effect, hindi ko madidiliman."
With his vast experience in the industry, he stressed that professionalism is the one trait that all artists should master, particularly those who are not so good in acting. "Hindi ka na kagalingan, kaaartehan ka pa. Pero swerte naman ako dahil from the very start, mga Nida Blanca na ang artista ko, Charito Solis, Gloria Romero, Nora Aunor. Yung mga yun kagalingan, kagandahan, at napaka-professional pa." He further gushes, "In fairness naman matitino yung mga artista na napupunta sa akin hanggang ngayon dahil alam nilang bruha ako ‘pag nag-inarte sila. At alam ni Anne yan."

Direk Wenn reveals that he and Anne had a major fight when they shot Ang Cute Ng Ina Mo last year. "Wala siyang close up. Hindi ko siya pinapansin the whole day sa set. Bago nag-premiere night nung movie na kami nagkabati. Hindi halata ‘di ba?" The reason behind their fight is better left forgotten Direk Wenn discloses. Nevertheless, he maintains that Anne is really a good girl and that she never talked back to him while they had their tiff. "Yun ang history ng pagiging mag-nanay namin," he adds.

Last Monday, Zanjoe Marudo attended a comic event in Trinomal Mall, where he has also launched his ever first comic magazine titled "Dyosa Komiks" which he has drawn. Zanzoe is make-shifting career in comic industry? The certain event sounds real but actually it was just a taping for a scene in upcoming fantaserye Dyosa. Zanjoe plays a role as comic artist where he has a magical skill to depict everything that would happen to Dyosa Cielo to an illustration, Dyosa Cielo is one of the three goddess ego Anne Curtis play.

Luis Manzano strips for ‘Dyosa’

Just like his mom, Star for All Seasons and Governor of Batangas Vilma Santos, Luis Manzano is a very good subject to interview. He’s always quick to answer with a smile and doesn’t play coy with questions that would have other stars blurting “no comment” in the blink of an eye. He was his usual candid, witty self when ABS-CBN.com talked to the MYX VJ and Dyosa cast member.

His dad, Optical Media Board Chairman Edu Manzano, speaks highly of Luis. “Since he reached [the age of] 27, pinapabayaan ko na siya. He has a mind of his own. Masipag yan at focused sa trabaho.” Mom Vilma has the same philosophy, since Luis is now living on his own in their old Greenmeadows home. But being the mom that she is, she checks on him regularly. “I have my household help with me and my mom calls me up twice a day. Kaya nga nalaman ko sa kanya na nagkita sila ni Angel (Locsin) sa birthday ni Tita Cristy (Fermin),” he says of his living arrangements.

Speaking of Angel, it’s no secret that he and the Lobo star have been seeing each other for close to a year now. Angel has even the won the approval of Luis’s parents. Mom Vilma likes Angel’s “love for her craft at ‘yong pagmamahal niya sa pamilya.” Ate Vi has even given Angel one of her signature handkerchiefs. Meanwhile, dad Edu is all praises for Angel’s influence on his son. “Mabait siya and I like her influence on him. I like her effect on him. There is a tremendous change in how I see him now and he is more responsible.”

As for the controversy between Angel and Claudine Barretto, Luis chooses to steer clear of the issue. “I would prefer to keep quiet. I don’t think there is something I can say about it.” But he does clarify that Angel is not the type to throw a hissy fit and pick a fight. “In the length of time we have been together, I have [gotten to] know her a lot. ‘Di siya ‘yong tipong nagtatantrums. She is not capable of doing it.” Luis went so far as giving a tongue-in-cheek reply. “Ah, oo nga. May ginilitan na nga siya ng leeg, may sinaksak ng dalawang tao ‘yan. Sa awa ng Diyos mga buhay pa naman sila ngayon.”

ABS-CBN.com also asked Luis how he felt about Angel doing kissing and love scenes. “Pareho kaming hindi nagpapakialaman. It’s Angel’s profession. Should I worry about it? Just think of my mom. How many guys has she kissed or had a bed scene with? Mga 30 ba? I just couldn’t be so shallow about these things. We have both grown up a lot.”

Luis also talks about his new role in the fantaserye Dyosa where he is reunited with his Kampanerang Kuba leading lady Anne Curtis. The actor is sure to raise eyebrows with a scene that has him totally naked for the cameras. “Ang dami kong pasa. Dati ‘di ba nagpakita na ako ng behind ko? Dito sa Dyosa me frontal naman ako. I did it because I trust Direk Wenn (Deramas) so much. He has an excellent way of executing the scene.” Audiences can be sure it will be one of the most awaited scenes in the upcoming series.
